What Is A Paralegal ?

In 2007, the Law Society of Upper Canada became the governing body of practicing Paralegals in the Province of Ontario. In 2008, mandatory licensing of all Paralegals was instituted. Paralegals are providers of Legal Services. Paralegals can provide some of the same services that Lawyers provide in certain proscribed areas of practice.

What can a Paralegal do for me?

Paralegals are permitted to practice in Provincial Offences Court, Small Claims Court, Landlord and Tenant Tribunals and other Tribunals. Paralegals are able to prepare Claims and Appeals for Disability benefits, Criminal Pardons and American Waivers. Paralegals typically charge a fraction of Lawyers’ fees, which can be a great advantage to those who need legal assistance but are unable to afford the associated costs.
